He is the man of modest origin. He was an orphaned child, raised as the son by another rural family was acknowledged and taught by Chanakya. And he was Chandragupta Maurya!
At the end of his life, he became a Jain Monk.
During his period, many religions flourished in India. Those religions are Buddhism, Jainism and Ajivika increasing influence along with the Brahmanism.

Land Between the two seas

He was only 22 when his father stepped down the throne. He maintained friendly relations with the west, Which brought sixteen new states under the Mauryan empire.
Popularly known as the king who conquered the 'land between the two seas' and his name was Bindurara.

Ashoka The Great

He was not the crown prince, according to the general agreement in the sources. As a young prince, he was a magnificent commander who crushed revolts in Ujjain and Takshashila. He was the charge of the viceroyship of Ujjain. He was a very aggressive and ambitious sovereign. He became the king after killing his brothers, but the crucial event of his life came when he conquered Kalinga (Kalinga controlled the routes to south India both by land and sea).

After the war, his heart filled with guilt of destruction. Affected by the war, Ashoka embraced Buddhism.
After that, Ashoka also implemented the principle of Ahimsa by banning hunting, violence and ending forced labour.
Ashoka grew friendly relations with states across Asia and Europe and sponsored Buddhism mission.
Over 40 years of peace, harmony and prosperity made Ashoka one of the most successful and famous emperors in Indian history. In modern India Ashoka pillar (four lions) idealised the figure of Ashoka the great!
